EV Training: It's application in role plays

Post by Dr. Zephery Oswald on May 18th 2011, 2:30 am

By now you are doubtless aware of the concept of effort values... *soft gasp* Their practical value... In raising pokemon... Is that certain pokemon, when trained against... Can make your pokemon stronger... *soft gasp*

This basic concept easily translates into role play... Pokemon have certain personality traits... That will challenge a pokemon into training its attributes more then certain others...

*breaths in softly* To give a simple example, as my associate did... In game... The Gastly line gives an EV point in Special Attack... *soft gasp* The reason for this, in game, is simple... Gastly, Haunter, and even Genger are all very ethereal beings... Hence, it would challenge a pokemon... Even more... To use physical attacks against them... They would... "learn" more about special attacks, not only by using them more... But by seeing a pokemon... Who uses mainly special attacks... They would obviously learn more about them... *soft gasp*

But... What of a less... Obvious example...? For instance, Magikarp trains speed... Why is this? For one thing, water pokemon would obviously be more slippery... And harder to hold onto... *soft gasp* Then normal pokemon... So think of it... Like this; have you ever tried to hold onto a fish? It requires great skill... To do so. Great speed of fingers. Thus... *soft gasp* a pokemon... Trying to fight a magikarp... Would be constantly moving... Either to catch the fish in its natural habitat... I.E., Water... Or to strike it... As it flops around... On land. Either way... Speed is trained.

*breaths in softly* Such lateral thinking... Could be applied to any pokemon, though some... Are less obvious then others. This is also to say... That in a roleplay... The concrete EV boosts... Are not so concrete... For instance... *soft gasp* A gastly... Who is extremely agressive... And leaves himself corporeal and open... To physical attacks... Could go from training Special Attack... To normal Attack. *soft gasp* Or, if he was agressive enough... Possibly even Special Defense...

In this way... EV can be seamlessly and easily... Applied to a roleplay... It is a thick enough topic... For an entire roleplay to span, even... But as it stands... They can also be easily applied... For added realism. *soft gasp*

Next Lecture... Personalitys... And how they can... Translate from a pokemon in game... To a character. For now... I believe... I must rest. Good evening.
